Title: If In Love... Like Them
It was a dreadfully depressing drama, dealing with issues on love and death. Unfortunately, I wasn't very convinced of the love between the two lead characters. It showed how they spent their time together very briefly though not entirely exclusively with each other. Sure, there were 'special moments' but each character (especially Lee Hyo Ri's Ina) seemed to be too preoccupied with their own impending death. To be fair, Lee Dong Gun's Jeong-Tae went all out to do everything for Ina, despite not knowing her well enough. To a greater extent, I was more convinced of his love for her - especially when he kept his illness from her until it was exposed by one of the thugs in the last episode. The final instalment was really... weeps...
I think I've more or less finished watching the later K-dramas Lee Dong Gun has acted in. My favourite is still Sweet 18. It is very well-paced, having a good mix of humour, sadness and touching moments. It has a simple storyline which touched on several moral and marriage issues.
The second one I like is Smile Again. I was moved by LDG's character, who went through hell literally for 7 years upon dropping out of school and yet still steadfast in his love for the female lead, Kim Hee Seon. By the way, I think she's pretty! (; (See picture on the right.)
Alright, enough K-serials for the moment. I'm going to take it easy from now onwards. LOL. Meanwhile, I think I'm going to check out the Korean language!!!
But first, I have to accompany Joce to check out some cars! ;)

Wednesday, June 27, 2007 Smile Again
I've finished watching Lovers In Paris! Right now, I'm onto another K-drama: Smile Again. Haha. I know, I know. I'm thoroughly mad, watching so many Korean serials all of a sudden so intensively. Basically, I'm trying to catch all the serials Lee Dong Gun acted in - from 2004 onwards. I hope to catch his latest serial If In Love... Like Them soon.
Hm, it seems that his characters in subsequent serials after Sweet 18 become scummier. In Sweet 18, he acted as an upright prosecutor and devoted husband - the perfect SNAG. Then, he was a love-sick, green-eyed, yet nonetheless very sweet chap in Lovers In Paris. Smile Again portrayed his character as an ambitious, scheming and very moody young man who is an orphan. Then finally, in If In Love... Like Them, he played the role of a loafer. Scummier characters with greater flaws and yet at the same time a lot more vulnerable.
I'm also very into the OSTs of these K-dramas. They contain beautiful melodies which really bring out the mood of certain scenes. Ah, how I wish I understand Korean. After watching a few serials, I think I managed to catch certain common words and phrases, but I'd like to learn more!
Hm, I wonder if my pupils will be motivated to learn English if I expose them to English serials. Somehow, it doesn't feel like it'll work. ;o
Okay, it's time to smile again... ;)

Saturday, June 23, 2007 Nothing In Particular
Alright, these are nothing in particular really. But...
Number one: I'm hooked on this other K-drama, Lovers In Paris. Haha... of course, I'm watching this drama because of Lee Dong Gun. x) Gee, he acted well and looked really good in this drama, though I'm not sure if I like his role as Yoon Soo Hyuk, who underwent a lot of pain because of envy and/or jealousy. I'm not sure if I even liked the storyline - there were too many loopholes and illogicalities. But what the heck.... LDG was worth it. ;) Ah, here's a better picture of him. (right)
Number two: During the week with my bestie in HK, I made the decision to cut off my hair. My bestie agreed that I should and gave some suggestions. I finally got it done yesterday afternoon. It sure feels GREAT to be rid of my messy locks! I felt so liberated that I actually went for a shopping spree! WOOTS! Haircut and shopping... I think I must have splurged at least $600 in one afternoon. (Oh gosh, and I have not even calculated how much I'd splurged in HK!)
Anyway, I didn't see anyone when I got home, hibernating in my room the rest of the day. So, it was really hilarious to see my parents' reactions when they saw me this morning: they were shocked! My mom actually sputtered, "What - what happened to your hair!?!" HAHAAHAHAH! Yeah, it's that drastic. Cheryl saw me at work this morning and she was astonished as well. LOL. So were Halil, Raani and Wern Chin.
Okay, let's see who will be the next one to be in shock. HAHA!

Zhen'ai gave me the URL one day and I saw this:
I nearly died laughing when I saw the hair and dancing. And then, the twirling of the hair started.
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 My Present Whims ;D
After two weeks of bumming, I'm finally back but not quite ready to face reality. ;p
I'm sure I've burst my budget for the month of June because of the shopping I did in HK. The air ticket to SH and HK alone was already a whopping S$1k. xB I blew another S$2k on another package at Helio. I'm so done for! Well, the money had better be well-spent. ;p
Before reality hits me on Wednesday, allow me indulge a little in some whims I've been developing during my overseas break. HAHAHA. This is utter madness...
Firstly, my inexplicable obsession with these two celebrities - my present eye candies. ;)
Raymond Lam (I love his voice!)
Lee Dong Gun (I absolutely adored him in Sweet 18!)
Secondly, I have another inexplicable indulgence in listening to the OST of 200 Pounds Beauty. I caught the Korean movie on the plane ride back home. My bestie and I had wanted to watch it during my stay in HK, but we kept postponing because she wasn't able to confirm the time she could knock off from work. Haha. Just as well. I managed to watch it on the plane. ;) The movie is average, but I really enjoyed the music!
I'm enjoying the songs so much that I actually went to check up on the basics of the Korean language a few hours ago. Woos. I think it's tougher to learn compared to Japanese, which is structurely similar to Chinese. Each Korean word is made up of 1 to a maximum of 3 alphabets, so the combination of all these alphabets make up an amazing number of words. It feels a little like English words which are made up of one to several alphabets. Unfortunately, I still can't quite figure out the grammar. Ah well... maybe I'll use my next long holiday to pick up a little Korean on my own. Hoho! Meanwhile, I'll just have to be contented with listening to the melodies of the Korean songs. LOL.

Thursday, June 14, 2007 Another Lazy Afternoon
It's another lazy afternoon. ;O
I just came back not too long ago from lunch with bestie at Yung Kee Restaurant. We ordered their famous goose meat and a couple of other dishes. I thought the goose meat wasn't too bad - succulent enough - and it tasted good with the sweet sauce. Other than that, I wasn't terribly impressed. Maybe the lunch crowd got on my nerves. The entire restaurant was bustling with amazing energy - so packed and noisy that I couldn't even hear myself think. Fortunately, we met early enough to avoid meeting the office people during most of our time there.
I'm not sure what we're going to do tonight. Probably we'll head to the pub downstairs for some drinks and then, if we are sober enough and not too weary, go for a long brisk walk at the gym. Haha. I've been lazy the past two days - zero exercise despite all the eating.
I'm wondering whether to abandon our island trip this Saturday to go shopping instead. I'm just worried I'll start spending like crazy. Normally, I don't shop very much, but once I get all warmed up, there's no way I can be stopped. Heh.
Well, I'll worry about that later this week. Right now, I'm wondering what I can do. It's starting to drizzle so it's troublesome to go out to shop around Tsim Sha Tsui. I guess I'll try to do some online shopping or surf for more interesting Korean serials.
Speaking of which, the Korean serial Sweet 18 which I've been watching really made me laugh and cry so much that I've decided to buy it when I return to Singapore. The leading couple (Han Ji Hye and Lee Dong Gun) has wonderful screen chemistry despite their 5-year age difference - 19 and 24 respectively - at the point of filming. I've always prided myself as a someone who doesn't tear easily when watching a show, but this serial really brought tears to my eyes - whether I was guffawing insanely at the hilariously adorable characters or being overwhelmed by moving moments. I'm sure I'll be watching it repeatedly. x)

Monday, June 11, 2007 Greetings From Hong Kong
Heyos! I can finally get online for a few hours. Haha...
It's been a lazy vacation for me so far. I'm not the usual tourist who treks everywhere everyday to get maximum experience in another country. Nah, not me. ;P I'm really just bumming around - in Shanghai and, now, Hong Kong.
In Shanghai, I went out and stayed in the apartment on alternate days. My parents had fantastic stamina when it came to walking. The intense walking on our first day there really exhausted me. By nightfall, I was literally dragging my feet home. It could be the footwear. I was vain. I refused to wear my track shoes except for gym. Haha.
On days when I was out with my parents, we walked, took the subway, the public buses and taxis to get where we wanted. I don't like the traffic in Shanghai. It's just too messy compared to Singapore. Maybe I'm too used to Singapore and couldn't get the hang of how the infrastructure works in Shanghai. I didn't really enjoy the food either. They were either too oily or too salty. Shopping was relatively cheap though, except for the luxury goods.
During the days when I was in the apartment, I was usually watching the television programmes or sleeping. Oh, I actually got hooked on this Korean comedy serial. I'm going to look for it when I return to Singapore. Hah... Actually I feel a bit frustrated now because I can't watch it in Hong Kong. I was frantically searching for the channel when I got to my bestie's place. Unfortunately, she didn't subscribe the channel. Sniffs!
Anyway, my first weekend in Hong Kong was a bit more fun than when I was in Shanghai. I went for a photography exhibition with my bestie on my first evening here. The photographs weren't too bad - basically pictures of people, landscape and scenery from Hong Kong. We didn't stay for long; we left just when the 3rd photograph was being auctioned off. Then we had dinner at an eatery serving 北京 dishes. Back in the apartment, we talked until 3.30am before zonking out.
Sunday was a terribly wet day. We didn't go Verandah for brunch in the end. Instead, we had 点心 for brunch at 糖朝 - a very nice restaurant in 尖沙咀 which specializes in Chinese desserts. It was shopping after that. The sales have started but I didn't buy much - just a bottle of perfume (because I'd used up the perfume I'd brought along on the trip in Shanghai). Heh.
Today, I went to The Peak with my parents before they left for the airport. We took the MTR and walked to the tram terminus, where the tram took us up the mountain. I was suddenly struck by how hilly Hong Kong is - even on lower grounds. Hey, maybe that's why most of the females here are SO SLIM! GAH!
Anyway, I was so overwhelmed by the number of pretty girls in Hong Kong that I've actually been going to the gym with my bestie for the past 2 days! HAHAHA... Let's see how long my desire to lose weight will last this time. xP We're actually planning to go to the gym twice a day - before she goes to work in the morning and after dinner at night. Well, I guess I'm going to cut down on my food intake here. After the 点心 brunch on Sunday, I've been eating moderately.
-----
A short pause there. My bestie just called to say she's leaving work soon and then we'll go out for dinner. Ngor yau sek wan tan min! ;9~~~
