Exhausted
I'm exhausted again. 'Tis a sign of old age. *sobs*
Actually, I just got home from dinner with Gina, Mag and Jann. We went Tiong Bahru market after church.
Let me pick up from where I left off earlier today in my blog...
Teing Im came by to school today after the National Day Concert Rehearsal. I grabbed the opportunity to clarify certain matters on Choir with her. By the time we finished talking, Cheryl had already come out from her meeting, which was almost 1pm. We didn't have lunch together in the end because I had to finish typing the QUEST Choir Report for 2004's QUEST Magazine and vetting the EL Prelim Paper 2.
(I'm talking to Gina online even as I'm blogging now.)
I could only leave school at around 2.35pm. I took a cab down to church and arrived at around 3pm. I finally got to see Gina's little cousin, Shannon! She's SO CUTE! And really very clever. :) She really can imitate people very well. We have the habit of giving a clap when we laugh and she actually imitated us!
After a while, Timothy and Christina came along with Eunice and Caleb. Caleb is presently at the stage where he can recognise people, so he gets very insecure when his mother isn't within his sight. Eunice appeared to have just woken up because she looked dazed and listless. Nevertheless, the two little girls exchanged hugs. Aw... SO SWEET! They hugged each other twice in fact!
After that, Timothy and Christina brought their children over to another room to have the meeting with Kris and Raymond. Mag, Gina, Jann and I brought Shannon to McDonald. We bought fries and some drinks. Shannon just kept eating the fries with mayonnaise; she was following what we were doing. Haha. How terribly unhealthy eh? ;p
Halfway through, Gina and Mag went back to church to bring Eunice to McDonald. We sat the two little toddlers together. It was really amazing to see Shannon literally feeding Eunice french fries. After feeding Eunice twice or so, Shannon just passed one fry at a time to Eunice, who started finishing each fry within a shorter time. Shannon got slightly frustrated at one point and said, "Tsk." Haha. She tried to tell Eunice to slow down by shaking her hands and saying, "No more! No more!" Haha. It was really comical. But Eunice just kept eating and eating! Poor Shannon.
When we allowed the two girls to leave their high-seats, Shannon tried to CARRY Eunice! My goodness! Needless to say, she wasn't successful. Even though both of them were about the same size, Eunice was too heavy for her. Eunice ended up falling on top of Shannon and in the process, knocking her head against the metal railing of a nearby chair. When Mag held Eunice up, she was starting to cry; the knock on the chair must have startled her. I didn't think there was very much pain actually.
Shannon stood at a side, shocked at Eunice's bawling. Gina carried Shannon and tried to assure her that it was okay. After a while, Shannon was encouraged to give Eunice a comforting peck on her head where she was knocked. However, the latter continued bawling and Shannon was visibly disturbed.
We decided to bring Eunice back to Christina. But the two little girls hung around at the entrance of McDonald with Jann and Gina until they were comfortable with each other again. Before they said goodbye to each other, they exchanged hugs again. My heart just melted when I saw that. Such adorable kids. If only they can meet up more often to play together. Both of them don't really have friends of the same age to play together with. And incidentally, both of them are of the same age! Shannon is only a day older than Eunice.
After Shannon's fiasco to carry Eunice, we went back to church with Eunice while Gina brought Shannon to town to meet her mother. Back at church, Eunice started to relax a bit more as she was now nearer to her mother. We soon started our worship practice with Christina because Timothy was still talking with Kris and Raymond.
We ended practice within an hour by 5.30pm. Then the AGM started at around 5.45pm, fifteen minutes behind schedule. It was one of the briefest meeting I've ever attended! Everything was done in half an hour! :O Anyway, we hung around a bit more, then took a cab down to Tiong Bahru for dinner.
For dinner, we ordered (yummy yum yum) Hokkien mee, rojak, carrot cake, chicken wings, chwee kuehs and desserts. It was just simple fellowshipping. After that, we went home.
I took SBS16 to Orchard Road and wanted to just walk around. But there were too many people on the streets and the sheer size of the crowd just grated my nerves. I went home instead. And now, here I am.
I wonder how tomorrow will be like... *tired* I hope it'll be just as eventful as today.

Perpetually Hungry
The National Day Concert rehearsal ended about an hour or so ago. After that, I spoke to the Choir regarding their performance and their discipline. Hopefully, things will be better after this.
I'm feeling rather hungry now. Cheryl has asked if I would be free to have lunch with her. Having no other commitments till 3pm in church, I agreed. But it also depends on whether the National Day Rehearsal Debriefing will end by 12.30pm. If so, we'll probably go for lunch at around 1pm.
There'll be a worship practice in church at 4pm later. But because Gina mentioned that she might be bringing her cousin, Shannon, down to church to play, I may go down an hour earlier. Eunice and Caleb should be there too, because Timothy and Christina will be having a meeting with Kris and Raymond at 3pm. Yeah! Finally can have a chance to play with the kids. I haven't seen them for 3 weeks!
Alright, I've just popped in 2 pieces of pineapple cheese bread to appease my hunger pangs. I don't feel as hungry now.
Hm... wonder what to do after worship practice later. It'll probably end by 5.30pm because Timothy has to attend the AGM at 5.30pm along with the other church members. Gina will be attending too. I'll probably get dragged to attend it. It should end by 7pm because there is a prayer meeting service at 7.30pm. I'm not sure if I'm going to attend that because I told my dad I might be home for dinner.
Oh well, see how things go later. I might want to just R&R in town later. But first, time to work!

Tired Out...
I got home about an hour ago and have been checking emails ever since. Dead tired.
Cheryl, Karen, Pei Chin and I conducted a Study Skills Workshop from 2.30pm to 4.15pm for the Secondary 4 Express and 5 Normal Academic pupils. Only about 5 to 6 Sec 4s turned up while the rest were Sec 5s. So demoralizing.
After that, I went to the Geography Room to check on 4E's attendance for the STEM programme. SEVEN pupils were not there! All the pep-talks given by Lee Wei Meng and Mr Lau didn't help a bit. And I thought they were mature enough to think for themselves. I felt really disappointed.
But I was heartened to see some of the 4D pupils there. Even though I don't teach them any more, I felt very glad for them that they were actually studying. A group of them (along with some pupils from 4E) was having a map reading session with Siew Hui. I think if most of the pupils in 4D keep up with this good attitude, they'll do very well in the national papers. Kinda miss them sometimes, especially my ex-2E pupils. They weren't saints, but they were a bunch of nice kids.
I don't know. Sometimes, I try to put myself in my students' position. After all, it wasn't THAT long ago when I was a teenager myself. I remember the years when I yearned for the 3 things which this psychiatrist doctor (who came to the school to give a talk) mentioned - fun, freedom and friends.
Seriously, even up to this point in my life, I still want to have these. Haha. Strange eh? That I should yearn for freedom even at this age. Well, I've come to realise that as long as there are people in authority (that is, they are above me in rank in family, at work and even in church), I can't always do what I want and what I like. Besides, I've also come to realise that what I want and/or like may not always be good for me.
After all, I'm at ground level, unlike God who is in heaven and sees all things. He is the One with the helicopter view. He should know what's best for me. I shouldn't settle for anything less than the best, yeah?
Alright, I'm feeling a bit hungry. I need fo-OO-ood! ;O~~~~~

Insomnia-tion
Okay, I know. This is a totally freaky hour to be up. Perhaps not so weird to many young people out there. (Hey, I'd like to think I'm -still- young! *gag*) I mean, when I was younger, I could stay up the whole night without sleeping.
Yeah, I remember the year when I was in NIE (1999), I had 2-3 projects to submit in the same week and it happened that Kris's birthday was coming. The cellgroup was planning to do a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle of 8 golden retrievers (all puppies) as a birthday gift for her. After lessons from NIE, I rushed down to Mag's place and we pieced up the picture together till at night. Then I cabbed home and finished up one of my projects which was due the following day. I didn't sleep at all because by the time I completed the assignment, I had to rush to campus for lessons at 8am. Lessons that day ended in the evening. I went to Mag's place to do the puzzle with the rest and didn't go home till late. So I took a cab home again. At home, I rushed out the 2nd project (which also included a presentation) due the following day and wasn't able to sleep because by the time it was done, I had to rush down to campus for lessons in the morning again. It wasn't until when school ended that day, that I could go home and snoozed all the way. That was the longest time ever that I didn't sleep a wink.
Right now? I don't know why I can't sleep. I feel like I have a lot of things to do and I just can't sleep. But now that I'm awake, I can't quite do what I'm supposed to do either. Sigh. I guess I should just go back to bed and force myself to sleep. I have to be up at 5.30am later anyway and that's like 3 hours from now.
I haven't had this feeling since 2000, 2001. I remember not sleeping well those 2 years because of the stress at work.
Hm, Gina... you emailed me something just now? I still haven't received anything leh. :O
Sigh. I'd better force myself to sleep. It'll be an incredibly long day at school later even though lessons end at 12.25pm. There's a study skills workshop for some graduating Secondary Four pupils. Pei Chin and I are supposed to be in charge of the energizers.
*slap my forehead* I. Am. Totally. Braindead. Now.

Hunger Pangs
I must be crazy. It's the 2nd recess in school now - bad timing to go down to the canteen to get food. Besides, even if I were to go down to get something to eat now, I probably won't have the time to eat properly. :/ :\ : So I'm blogging. La la la...
'Tis a bad day today. My timetable is packed - 8 periods in all. No breaks after recess and I'll be seeing 3H FIVE periods in a row for EL (2 periods) and CPA (3 periods). Sigh. This is inhumane. To them and to me. :( Ok, at least Timothy will be teaching them CPA today, which means I can take a break and don't have to talk aloud for 5 periods straight.
10 more minutes to the bell. Should I go down to the canteen to buy a bun? It's probably better than having nothing at all.
I guess I'll do JUST that then!

Frustration
Okay, I've been trying to post some of my pictures here, but apparently I'm not successful at all. *howls* Anyone out there knows how to do it?
(Selwyn! Pit Kun just told me you know how! Please enlighten me!)
Right now, I'm wondering what time I should take off from school tomorrow for my course at CCAB. The course is from 10am to 12pm. Weird timing? Yeah, I suppose so. The trainer is a foreigner (from Sweden) and he had some problems with his flight schedule, which was why the course had to be brought forward to Wednesday morning when initially it was supposed to be on Thursday afternoon.
Anyway, I should be having lessons with 3H during the first 2 periods (CPA). I think I should just pass them the worksheets for EL during the third period and get ready to go CCAB. Oh dear, I hope they will behave themselves in class. I didn't ask the school to assign someone to relief my lesson.
Because of the course tomorrow, I will not be seeing 4E for EL. I had the intention to let them watch a movie in the AVT this week, but since no teacher can be with them in the AVT for 2 periods tomorrow, I'm saving this for next week's lessons. Hm... what movie shall I get?
Okay, I will be going back to school for the last period with 3H for EL after the course tomorrow. Hm, hopefully, they would have finished the worksheet I'd be giving them tomorrow after CPA.
There are a lot of deadlines at work tomorrow. Unfortunately, I left my organizer at my work desk in school. ARGH! If my memory serves me correctly, I think one of them is the deadline for keying in the pupils' CCA records into the RJCATS. Sigh... gotta dig out all the Choir stuffs so that I can key in the details for their participation in SYF.
I'll probably leave school for vocal lessons at around 4.30pm. Rebecca lives in Marsiling. God knows how long the journey is from Redhill to Marsiling. So I'm giving it 1 hour 30 minutes, which might not be enough. Hm. Okay, think I'll add another 20 minutes for walking, so I'll leave school at 4.10pm. Hoepfully, I can reach Marsiling by 6pm.
After vocals, there's a Leaders' Meeting at Kris' place at 7.30pm. I'll probably take the MRT train down to Bishan. I'll have to ask Rebecca to let me off at 6.45pm sharp tomorrow.
Alright, I'd better stop blogging now. It's rather late. Good night!

Just Another Sunday...
It's almost 9.30pm. I have just finished dinner not too long ago and am blogging now.
I woke up at around 7am this morning, bathed and dressed for church. I took a cab and reached church by 8.05am. We practised the praise and worship songs till about 8.55am before handing the microphone over to Pastor James for the pre-service prayer-cum-worship.
I couldn't hear myself sing the whole time. I couldn't hear the vocalists either. I could only hear Andy's voice. Benji probably didn't set the microphone levels properly. By the time Andy was done with the praise segment and we came to the worship part, my voice was half gone. It was a miracle that I could still pull through singing Times of Refreshing. Generally though, I thought today's worship could be better. While preparing the worship songs yesterday and throughout the practices we had, I just had this sense of tiredness.
After worship service and sermon, we went to the hawker centre to have our lunch. The stall selling dumpling noodles appeared to have moved away. I was quite disappointed because I like the way the noodles was cooked by the hawker. So I ordered a bowl of noodles from another stall, which required self-service.
That afternoon, we had Leaders' Meeting. While waiting for 1.30pm to come, we were playing guitar and singing to a few worship songs. The meeting came and went. Basically, I sat through everything without really knowing what was going on because I was too tired.
Later on, Gina, Mag and I went over to Pit Kun's place. Apparently, her friends from church decided not to go over her place at the last minute because they'd wanted to go home to study. Thus, the 3 of us decided to go to her place to rot for a couple of hours before Gina and Mag went over to Kris' place to accompany her mom for the evening. (Kris, the youth leaders and the youths were all at Iwan's place for pot-luck.) I didn't join Gina and Mag at Kris' place because I wanted to go back home for dinner.
I came home by cab and had dinner. My mom had gone out - probably for grocery shopping. My dad and brother were at home though.
Right now, my brother is downstairs watching some martial arts documentary about Bruce Lee's techniques. Eversince he's started on Aikido some years back, my brother has been rather obsessed with martial arts. :O
*Yawn* I'm feeling sleepy all of a sudden. I think I shall end this mundane entry and take a nap or something. Tata.

Rainy Saturday
The day started out with a heavy rain. I had to go to school to administer the EL Mock Examination Paper 2 to 4E. All of them said that it was a tough paper. (4E: Was it really THAT difficult?) :O
Well, hopefully, it won't be too bad. ;o
After the paper, I went to Great World City with Pit Kun for food. I was starving and bought myself a yong tau foo set meal. A bit too much for breakfast eh? But, well, I wasn't intending to eat lunch. Pit Kun had beef noodles, I think. I wish I had eaten the curry chicken noodles instead now. Heh.
We went to buy some stuffs at Cold Storage, after which I sent her back before coming home. She was going to meet Siew Hui for lunch.
I have been online since I was home.
I'm feeling a bit stressed now actually. I've got to go church for worship practice later. Argh! And I have not even come up with the songs for worship yet! Timothy messaged yesterday to ask if Andy and I could lead worship for Sunday's service because both he and Christina had fallen ill. It didn't seem like we had much of a choice. Anyway, Andy said he'd take the praise segment, so I'm left with the worship part.
I haven't quite decided what songs to use. Sigh... how how how...?!? So last minute. I think in future, I will say 'no' to such last minute request. It's too stressful for me to handle. :(
Okay, I guess I'd better get to it. Otherwise I'll have to tell the rest to forget about practising the worship segment later at 4.30pm. Andy can just practise the praise part. ;o

For Once...
For once, the school is pretty quiet. The Secondary Twos and Threes have gone for their respective camps, leaving only the Secondary Ones, Fours and Fives in school. Many of my colleagues aren't around either, so it's rather quiet in the staff room now.
I've got quite a few relief-teaching to do because of the camps. Well, I won't be really teaching because most of the teachers have set assignments for their classes to complete. I'll just be going in, keeping them quiet and on task.
Alright, the bell has just rung for the Upper Secondary's recess. That means I have only about 30 minutes left before I do relief at 1B. Sigh... I'll probably be doing marking on the 4E's mock examination paper 1 scripts.
BBL. :)

Monday Blues
Okay. So there was a fire alarm that went off just a while ago in school. False alarm. I wonder what triggered it. So unnerving. ;p
I'm still in school. There's choir today. I guess I could go off earlier because Haryati will be around today. But I think I'd better stay on for a while more and see how the kids fare later in their practice.
Saturday's rehearsal in the hall was disastrous. Well, most of them knew the steps because they'd participated in the SYF performance. However, there were a few who did not participate and hence did not know how to dance. Funny, eh, that choir members had to dance? Well, these days, everyone is encouraged to be an all-rounder - pupils to have an all-rounded education, teachers to be able to multi-task (teacher, parent, friend, counsellor, disciplinarian and so on all rolled into one person)... even celebrities - they do stunts for charity these days.
Okay, it's past 3.30pm. I'd better run up to the music room. ;o Darn... stomachache! Of all the time...

Crazy Tuesday
I've been back since 6.30pm. It rained on my way home. Thank goodness I took the umbrella with me when I left the staffroom. I'd initially intended not to take it.
I'm feeling rather tired now. It's been a hectic day even though I only had three periods of teaching (my lightest day!) - 2 periods of English Language with 4E at the start of the day and 1 period of English Language with 3H at the end of the day.
As such, I had a lot of time in between the two lessons. I managed to clear some paper work for Choir - submitted the claim reports for the vocal instructress, Ai Ming, and faxed over an application form for myself to attend a Choir course, which is on a first-come-first-served basis. I may not get the chance to attend it if it's too popular. ;(
I finally finished setting the Sec 4NA EL Prelim Paper 1 too. Apparently, there are some changes to be made, especially for the second section. *headache* Anyway, Yani said she'd take a look first and get back to me.
I'd also prepared about two-thirds of the CPA lesson with 3H tomorrow... on PowerPoint slides. Otherwise, they'll just sleep their time away in the laboratory... especially Clement. I hollered at him today during English Language lesson to get out of my class - he had no book and was snoring away. He left the classroom without much hassle - thank goodness. Otherwise, I'll have to keep bugging him to wake up and that will definitely irritate him, which will further lead to defiance. ;o
Halfway through the lesson, Adam suddenly came to tell me that he'd lost his camera. The girls in the class started scolding him for bringing such an expensive item to school - just to flaunt his wealth - and said that he deserved it. I gave Adam permission to report the loss at the General Office and Cheryl promptly came along and asked me to retain the class once the bell rang for school to end. A few minutes later, Adam came to tell me that he got his camera back. Apparently, Nizam had taken the camera. :O He must have had cold feet when he saw Cheryl sitting outside and, later on, Osman walking towards the class. Well, whether or not he had taken the camera as a joke or on purpose, I'm not too sure. In any case, Osman probably gave him a dressing down.
After school, there was WITS meeting. It was a rather long one... from 2.45pm to 4.30pm - almost 2 hours. Sigh, there's work to be done of course - cataloguing of the English Department resources in the Resource Room on the 21st July. Thank goodness the Sec 2s and 3s will be away on camp from 22nd July onwards. I don't have to teach EL and CPA to my 3NT... can just concentrate on 4E.
Oh, I got to go. Time to eat dinner. No appetite actually... gastric's acting up again. ;(

Headache...
I had wanted to sleep because I am having a headache, which is probably due to lack of sleep. Anyway, Gina messaged to tell me that Jocelyn won't be attending the prayer meeting on Saturday, which means she won't be able to serve as a vocalist. :O
Which is why I'm online. I'm feeling a bit panicky at the moment. I just spoke to Gina online and she's agreed to co-lead worship for prayer meeting. Now we're discussing whether to have worship practice on Thursday or Friday. Anyway, I think perhaps we should have practice on Thursday first, and if we sound awful, we can come down for practice again on Friday.
Gosh, and I still have to set the examination papers. Gotta finish this soon. The process is so constipating. :( I was hoping to be able to finish it off today when the choir was having their practice. Unfortunately, as usual, I was running up and down like a lunatic between the Music Room, Staffroom and General Office.
The reason being Aiming only called at 3.30pm to ask me to prepare the song Turtle Dove (for SYF competition in 2005), and I was in the midst of getting the kids to practise on the songs which they will be performing for the school's National Day Celebrations. It turned out that none of the kids brought their choir files, so I had to run down to the General Office to photocopy 20 sets for the kids to share.
Tomorrow I have WITS meeting with EL Department. Jon told me the time today, but I forgot. I think it's at 2.30pm. On Wednesday, the staff will be having SEM meeting - all teachers' nightmare. I hope the meeting will be a fast one though.
On Thursday, I have vocal lesson at Rebecca's at 5.45pm. After that, I'll be heading down church for worship practice. (Yeah, Gina and I have finally agreed to have it on Thursday).
Gina's recommendation: "Testify To Love". It's quite nice... has a pretty catchy chorus.
Hm, I think I should try and do a bit of my examination papers now, even if I can't finish it by tonight.

The Unearthly Hour
Yes. I'm still up at this unearthly hour. I can't sleep. Not too sure why I'm not able to sleep either. Insomnia?!?!?!!!!!! ;o
I haven't napped a single bit today either.
I think I'm just cranky.
Vanessa will be coming back Singapore on 13 August. And then she'll be flapping back to China on 21 August. Today, she will be going to San Jose, USA, for some meeting. I was talking a bit with her online via Yahoo Messenger just now. We'll be meeting up for sure. I've even messaged Ruth, who's replied that she prefers to meet up during the weekend for dinner.
Me too. I think less complicated to meet during the weekend. There are too many work commitments during the weekdays.
I can't wait to see Van... finally... after 16 months! I didn't realise it'd been so long! I suspect we'll probably dine at our favourite hangout at Fullerton again. Hahaha...
Oh, gosh. I hear thunder rolling. It's another rainy night. Well, hopefully it won't rain later in the morning when I wake up for work. I'd forgotten to withdraw cash today so I won't have money to take a cab to work. Which means I can't afford to wake up late later. Ugh. :(
Right. I shall stop now.

Crappy Stuffs
Alright. I have been trying to do up this blog site the whole day ever since I came back from church. I think I'd better stop! ;O
My back's aching and eyes are hurting. Gosh, I still need to finish setting the Sec 4NA EL Prelim Papers. Sigh. Deadline's tomorrow. And I've been doing crap rather than work. ;o
I'll stop here then.

Hot Afternoon on Sunday
It's a terribly hot afternoon today. I came back from church about a couple of hours ago and have been online since.
Worship service was great today. After that, the cellgroup went for lunch and I had a sing-a-long session with Fangling. We left church at around two plus. While the rest went Newton for tea, I decided to come home.
Which was a good thing. My gastric is acting up again. Bad tummy! *spank* Okay, that was a wrong thing to do. I'm -already- in pain. ;O
My dad just passed me a primary school Math problem sum to solve. :O I think it's from one of my aunt's tuition class students. Bother... my brain is too dead to do calculations now. Plus I'm too famished. ;p
Alright. I'm ending my blog here. Gonna hunt for food! Ta! (",)/

After A 3-Week Hiatus
Right. I haven't blogged for almost 3 weeks... somewhere around that length of time.
I've been busy once I got back from USA in June. (And already, it's July! *gape*) I had an extremely packed final week of the June break - filled with SYF Choir rehearsals and workshops at school. And then, school started the following week.
The 2nd week of school is almost over. Most of my afternoons were devoted to the N Level English Language Oral Examination. I was one of the oral examiners, so almost everyday for this week, I had to rush off to the examination centre I was assigned to go to conduct the examination. By the time the examination ended each day, it was close to 6pm.
It was my last day yesterday (it's past midnight now) as OE1 at Queensway Secondary and just before I left, I saw an old friend - Josephine Leong. We were so surprised to see each other that we just rambled on and on. We weren't particularly close back then in secondary school and JC, but we were okay, so it was kinda easy to talk and 'catch up' with each other in some sense. She's just completed her 1-year NIE course in May/June (after a 6-month teaching stint as a relief teacher) and is now teaching EL and Humanities at Queensway Secondary. Prior to that, she was working in the "import and export" line in a couple of companies and even went to UK for a while before finally deciding to teach.
She is still closely in touch with her JC classmates, while I have not seen mine for quite a while. She was telling me about J (I shall not mention this person's full name), the one from her class A13 in HCJC, who was recently jailed for swindling billions of dollars. I was shocked. It never occurred to me that this person would do anything like that.
Anyway, she looks pretty much the same, except thinner and more tired, though still as bubbly as ever. She offered to drive me to town as she was going Great World City, which wasn't where I was heading. I was hoping to talk a bit more with her in the car. Unfortunately, Nelson's mother chose that moment to call me and I had to speak with her 95% of the time in the car ride. *sigh* What great timing. Anyhow, I managed to get Josephine's contact number before she dropped me off at Borders. Hopefully we'll keep in touch. It's good to know -somehow- that I have another friend coming into the teaching line.
I'm not sure if I'll be staying for good though... who knows? ;B
